Donbass beats Slovan in their KHL debut

This evening there were 11 games held in the Kontinental Hockey League, meaning also the very first match for all three new teams - Slovan, Lev and Donbass. While Donbass managed to win Slovan Bratislava 4:2, Lev Prague managed to beat Dinamo Riga 2:1.
Donbass - Slovan 4:2
Tonight two KHL debutants faced each other in a tough battle in Bratislava. Although the score after first two periods was tied at 2:2, Slovan, playing in front of the sold-out Ondrej Nepala arena, had a slight edge of the game. In fact, Donbass only managed to tie the game with less than 30 seconds left in the second stanza.
In the third period, however, Donetsk managed to turn things around, Jaroslav Obsut scoring the game winning goal early in the period. Donbass completely dominated the period, and Fredrik Pettersson made it 4:2 with less than five minutes to go in regulation.
Jani Tuppurainen finished the game with two points, not only tying the game late in the second period, but also assisting Jaroslav Obsut on the game winning goal.
Lev - Riga 2:1
Lev Prague made their KHL debut an even more joyful event by winning Dinamo Riga 2:1 in front of their fans at Tipsport Arena tonight.
In the first period it was Dinamo Riga which had the initiative. Early in the game Riga's Andris Dzerins did not score on a penalty shot, still, in the second half of the period Martins Karsums managed to open the score of the game after a great pass from Miks Indrasis.
In the second period Lev overtook the upper hand of the game, while Lubos Bartecko managed to tie the game late in the period.
Also in the third period both teams played a rather passive game, yet Tomas Surovy managed to score the game winning goal, after Dinamo's goalie Maris Jucers was successfully screened by Paul Szczechura. Any remaining Riga's attempts were destined for a failure.
Lokomotiv - Sibir 5:2
This evening also saw the rebirth of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, which managed to outscore Sibir 5:2. The first goal of the game came already early in the first when Latvian Arturs Kulda opened the score for Sibir. The game was rather tight in the first twenty minutes, and by the end of the period the score was tied at one.
Early in the second period Mikelis Redlihs scored to make it 2:1 for Lokomotiv, but then Nikita Zaitsev tied the game. In the second half of the period not only Staffan Kronwall managed to score the game winning goal, he also put another puck in the net, making it 4:2 by the end of the first two periods.
In the second minute of the decisive period Daniil Apalkov put the finishing touches to the game, by scoring and making it 5:2. Both teams produced a similar number of shots, but neither of them managed to change the score anymore.
Despite the score, shots on goal were in favour for Sibir (33-31), Vitaly Kolesnik having a superb night in Yaroslavl's net, stopping 31 out of 33 opponent attempts.
