OTTAWA, Ont. – Hockey Canada, along with the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association and 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship host committee, announced Monday the final schedule for the tournament, which runs April 2-9, 2013 in Ottawa and Nepean, Ont.

Groups were set based on the previous IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship results; Group A, hosted at SBP Arena in Ottawa, home of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, features Canada’s National Women’s Team, the defending gold medallist, along with Finland, Switzerland and the United States. Group B, hosted at the Nepean Sportsplex, will feature the Czech Republic, Germany, Russia and Sweden.

Canada’s National Women’s Team opens the tournament Tuesday, April 2 when it takes on the United States in a rematch of this year’s gold medal game, a thrilling 5-4 overtime win for the Canadians that gave them their 10th world title. Canada and the U.S. have met in every gold medal game at the world championship, with the Canadians holding a 10-4 advantage.

The 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship will mark the sixth time Canada has hosted the tournament, joining 1990 in Ottawa, 1997 in Kitchener, Ont., 2000 in Mississauga, Ont., 2004 in Halifax, N.S., and 2007 in Winnipeg, Man.
