A close race for the last spot in the quarter finals in Germany's top league.
Adler Mannheim - Hannover Scorpions 6-0Die Adler defaeted last placed Scorpions 6-0. After two period shots on goals were 39-17 but the score still 0-0. But when Christoph Ullman broke the deadlock at 1:58 in the third Adler Mannheim exploded and scored six goals within 7:25. Three goals were scored on the power play. Shawn Belle was the only double goal scorer. Alder is now third in the tight top four.
Iserlohn Roosters - EHC München 7-3Shots on goals were 41-41 but it was Iserlohn who scored most goals and won. München had the lead 2-1 after the first period. Iserlohn scored three goals in the second to take the lead 4-2 but München pulled one back early in the third. But in the second half of the third period Iserlohn scored three unanswered goals for the 7-3 win. Michael Wolf scored three goals and added one assist while Tobias Wörle had three assists for Iserlohn. Iserlohn is in ninth place only one point after Augsburger in the important sixth place.
Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg - ERC Ingolstadt 6-1An easy for win for Wolfsburg in the top of the table. Wolfsburg now passed Ingolstadt in the standings and went up to second place. Wolfsburg dominated the game and even if Thomas Greilinger gave the guests the lead the home team was in full control and completed the win by two goals in the second and four goals in the third period. Kai Hospelt and John Laliberte both scored two goals, Laliberte also added two assists.
Hamburg Freezers - Krefeld Pinguine 6-1Hamburg clinched a place in the quarter finals by beating Krefeld 6-1. The guests dominated the shots and had 43 shots on goal but John Curry made 42 saves. Brett Engelhardt opened the scoring and assisted on three goals. Hamburg scored four goals on the power play. Two of them at the end of the game when Boris Blank had been sent of the ice with a five + game penalty for high sticking.
DEG Metro Stars - Kölner Haie 0-3Two teams both in chase of the last quarter final spot. After the game today they are both still outside the quarterfinals but in the preround. DEG is in seventh place on the same point as Augsburg. Köln is tenth place only one point behind. Danny Aus den Birken made a great game in goal for Köln with 34 saves for the shutout. Alexander Weiß gave Köln the lead with an important late goal in the first. He also assisted when Charles Stephens made it 0-2. Gogulla made it 0-3 and despite a complete domination by the home team in the third period no more goals were scored.
Eisbären Berlin - Straubing Tigers 6-3Eisbären is still in the lead of DEL after 6-3 against Straubing. The guests had big penalty problems in the beginning of the second and Berlin scored three quick power play goals. Straubing's Karl Stewart was given a game misconduct penalty for checking from behind but Dustin Whitecotton also managed to score a shorthanded goal. And Straubing would also score a power play goal to only be one goal beind. But only 22 seconds later Jens Baxman restored the 4-2 lead and in the third Berlin was in control of the game. Julian Talbot (1+2) and Darin Olver (0+3) both had three points.
Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers - Augsburger Panther 3-4A dramatic game where Augsburg took three important points in the chase for the last quarter final spot. Teams took turn in having the lead and when Eric Chouinard tied the game with 1:03 left to play with an extra attacker on the ice it felt like the game would go to overtime but a penalty with 31 seconds left gave the Panthers a last chance and with twelve seconds left to play Mario Valery-Trabucco scored the game winning goal.
