Game recap

Guildford Flames came out of Glasgow with a 3-2 overtime win against the Clan on Friday night.

The hosts started well and were quicker out of the blocks. After sustained offensive pressure, Glasgow took a deserved lead when Deven Sideroff finished off a neat move created by Brayden Burke and Cade Neilson.

Guildford responded strongly in the second period. Cole Ully, facing his former club, tied the game midway through the frame, and then struck again three minutes later with a well-placed finish from a wide angle to turn the game in the Flames’ favour.

“I think the first period they came out really hard and you have to give them credit,” said Ully. “They’re a relentless team and pretty shifty in the offensive zone. We settled into the game in the second, got a couple of goals, and in the third they took it to us, but we weathered the storm. Fazio was great.”

Clan pushed back in the final period and levelled the game when Robert Lachowicz threaded a pass across the slot for Alex Forbes, who fired in from a sharp angle with just under 15 minutes to play. Glasgow carried momentum through the closing stages but could not find a winner.

Overtime was decided by a moment of individual brilliance. Charlie Curti faked retreating to the neutral zone, caught two Clan players mid-change, and then cut in alone to beat Sami Aittokallio for the game-winning goal.

“The last couple of games went to overtime and we couldn’t get the extra points, so it’s definitely nice to come away with the two,” added Ully. “In a building like this, getting both points is huge for us.”
