Game recap

Dundee Stars climbed into second place in the Elite League table with a 3-1 win over Manchester Storm on Friday night.

Despite outshooting their visitors 15 to eight in the opening period, the Stars found themselves a goal down shortly before the buzzer - Sam Tremblay saw his shot form the point go through a screen, possibly tipped, in front of Kevin Carr and into the net with 21 seconds left in the first period.

Ryan Valentini levelled 29 seconds into period two for an almost immediate response, and inside five second-period minutes the home side were ahead. Spencer Naas put Dundee ahead at 24:25 on the powerplay with a shot form that point as the puck popped out to him.

The teams had combined for over 60 shots in the opening 40 minutes but were separated by just the odd goal in three. The crucial next goal went the way of the Stars with Jake Elmer threading the pick through to Anthony Rinaldi for a wrist-shot finish with 49:07 played - Stars goalie Carr getting a second assist on the play.

Carr denied Andreas Heier with five minutes to go as the Storm looked for a way back into the game. Weninger was called to the bench with 1:40 to force a goal, but inside the final minute Heier couldn't keep the puck in the attacking zone allowing James Phelan for the empty netter.
