A three-goal win over the basement side was enough to move Fife back up to sixth in the Elite Ice Hockey League on Friday night.
Following their sound performance midweek against Belfast, the Flyers took the lead a little over seven minutes into the game through Brett Bulmer. Games between these sides have been tight this season and it was little surprise therefore when MK equalised – Robbie Baillargeon with the leveler on the powerplay 1:16 into period two. Fife however didn’t need long to go back into the lead, 81 seconds more in fact played when Mike Cazzola converted for 2-1.
It stayed a one-goal game until just before the midway point of the final period at the Fife Ice Arena – Danick Gauthier put the Flyers into what seemed a comfortable two-goal lead with his goal at 47:09, but the Lightning were back in it 2:11 later as Baillargeon netted again on the powerplay. Hopes of a comeback for the visitors all-but evaporated however at 53:55 as Bulmer hit his second of the night, before Joe Basaraba’s powerplay goal secured a three-goal win for the hosts.
