Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Ak Bars Kazan both won away to higher ranked teams to take 2-0 leads in their KHL Quarter Final series.

The Finnish players won the game for Metallurg. Petri Kontiola tied it at 58:03 and Juhamatti Aaltonen scored the game-winning 4-3 at 3:29 of the overtime. Omsk had a 2-0 lead after 6:19 and a 3-2 lead for the larger part of the third period, but the away team can travel home with a 2-0 lead in the series.

Star players like Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko didn't score for Salavat but they still managed to beat the 2009 and 2010 champion Ak Bars away 3-1 to take a 2-0 lead. Alexander Svitov, Petr Schastlivy and Sergei Zinoviev scored for the visitors.
