Red Bulls fined and lost 0-5 after refusing to play

Vienna Capitals are the first team to reach the semi finals in the Erste Bank Eishockeyliga but the main news item from the playoff game four is the decision by Red Bulls Salzburg to refuse to play away to Olimpija Ljubljana due to safety reasons.
Red Bulls were 3-0 up against Olimpija and had the chance to secure a semi final spot in game four on Sunday. But after not being pleased with the safety arrangements in the previous games in Ljubljana they felt that safety of the players could be guaranteed and decided not to play the game. According to Salzburg home fans has attacked away players and thrown items on to the ice during earlier games and when they were not pleased with the new safety arrangement before this game they decided to travel back home to Salzburg and not playing the game.
The league awarded Olimpija Ljubljana a 5-0 win and fined the Red Bulls Salzburg € 10.000 for not playing the game. The Red Bulls also have to pay the extra costs for Olimpija for the cancelled game.
On the ice, Vienna Capitals were the only team to win their quarter final in three straight games after a 4-3 overtime victory away to Graz. The Capitals were down 3-1 with two minutes left to play but scored two goals in 21 seconds to tie the game and six minutes into the overtime Corry Larose scored the winning goal.
KAC Klagenfurt and VSV Villach also hade the chance to win in four games but KHL Medvescak Zagreb defeated KAC 4-1 and Linz won 2-0 against VSV in game four. The quarter finals continues on Tuesday and then Red Bulls, KAC and VSV all have the chance to qualify for the semi finals by winning on home ice.
