A quick look at Elitserien so far

Eurohockey.com takes a quick look at what has happened in Elitserien so far this season, just over halfway through the regular season, a season that has been very even so far.
A bit surprisingly Skellefteå AIK tops the league, much thanks to the new duo Joakim Lindström and Mikko Lehtonen who are number one and two of the top scorers list of the league. In second place is another surprise Luleå who has been in first place for most of the season but has lost the first place recently.
Last season's champions HV 71 are in third, after a some what bad start to the season they have started to show what they can and climbed in the standings. Färjestad are in fourth place with one of the best goalies of the league, Alexander Salak.
After the top four clubs there is a seven point gap down to Linköping. Linköping is one of the best teams of the league when they play at their top level but as many other teams this season they are somewhat uneven. veteran defender Magnus Johansson is still going strong as one of the best players of Linköping.
In sixth place is Brynäs who have had it a bit hard to adjust to a life without Jakob Markström in goal. After being one of the best teams on defense they are now one of the worst teams in allowed goals but can still be pleased with a sixth place. One of the big disapointments so far is Frölunda. Despite a roster filled with star players the started the season very bad. But after GM Kent Norberg resigned they have started to take some more points and climbed to seventh.
Djurgården hasn't been able to show the same form as last season when they reached the final. Now they are in eight, the last playoff spot. They have trouble with their goal scoring and have no player in the top 25 scoring list. Djurgårdens local rival AIK are back in Elitserien after several years of absence. The newcombers was expected to finish last by most experts before the season but had a good start but after a bad string of results recently they have fallen down to ninth.
Timrå is in 10th place and is one of the most uneven teams of the league. They are also the worst home team with only 15 points at home, they have taken 25 on away ice. Just as the last couple of seasons Timrå have been heavily hit by injuries and before the international break also both the goalkeepers were unable to play.
In the two last places of the league is MoDo and Södertälje. MoDo has signed Markus Näslund as GM and perhaps Peter Forsberg will make a final attempt to return to the ice. Södertälje is one of the most anonymous teams of the leauge and there is no surprise if the stay at the bottom. However they are hard working team and can climb the rankings if they get some more confidence.
