The Mayo High School Boy's hockey program consists of two teams:
Varsity and Junior Varsity (JV)
Teams will be selected after a series of tryouts during the first week of the season. The tryouts usually take place during the second week of November after completion of the high school Fall sports season. Selection of the teams will be made based upon evaluations by the coaches and the needs of the teams; teams will consist of between 18-25 players selected by the coaches.
The Varsity roster will be primarily juniors and seniors; however, sophomore and freshman players who are capable of playing a key role on Varsity will be brought up without hesitation.
The Junior Varsity roster will be primarily juniors and sophomores; however, freshmen and 8th grade players who are capable of playing a key role on Junior Varsity will be brought up without hesitation. Seniors must make varsity in order to play as JV is reserved for underclassman.
