Superleague franchise awarded on 7 December 1996. Leeds Ice Hockey Club Ltd was sold by the original franchise holders (the Caspian Group) to Leeds Sporting, owners of Leeds United football club. Leeds Sporting scrapped plans for the club and a 14,000 seat arena at Elland Road when they announced their annual accounts in October 2000. The group Chairman, Peter Ridsdale, said that Leeds Sporting had sold the ice hockey franchise but did not give the name of the buyers. The project never start and team was disbanded
