Game recap

Cardiff Devils bounced back from two defeats last weekend and midweek Challenge Cup elimination with a 4-1 home win over Nottingham Panthers, keeping their unbeaten-in-regulation record in the league intact.

Just 25 seconds into a Sam Duggan minor, slick Panthers passing set up Brendan Harris for a one-timer to open the scoring. The Devils levelled late in the period, with Riley Brandt wristing home from the slot off an excellent feed from Kristoff Kontos with 3:12 remaining.

Early in the second, captain Joey Martin put Cardiff ahead, finishing high over Jason Grande after Brandon Estes’ shot produced a rebound in front.

Estes then turned scorer himself, netting 2:56 into the third to give the Devils a two-goal cushion. Cardiff’s ability to hold that lead owed much to Ben Bowns, who produced a string of superb saves in the final period, including one off his mask, to keep Nottingham out.

With 91 seconds to play, Martin sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, wrapping up a strong response from the Devils.
