Game recap

Cardiff arrived in Gothenburg top of Group H, but after a Matt Pope giveaway was converted by Patrik Carlsson after 35 seconds, the Devils had more than a mountain to climb against the defending champions.

One down after 20 minutes, captain Joel Lundqvist put the Devils two behind at 23:30, although a fine effort from Joey Martin pulled the Devils back into the game just over a minute later. Frölunda however added goals from Karl Stollery at 27:07 and LA Kings draft pick Samuel Fagemo in the period, however Ben Bowns' unreal save to deny a 2-on-0 was undoubtedly the highlight for Cardiff and their 200 travelling fans.

Joey Haddad pulled the score back to 5-2 at 44:21 after Jacob Peterson had scored for the hosts, but after Lundqvist made it six the Indians ran riot. Brandon Gormley, Fagemo again, and another from Lundqvist to complete his hat-trick gave the home side a commanding 9-2 win.
