Game recap

Cardiff Devils bounced back from two home defeats to Belfast by going to Sheffield and securing a big road win.

It was an excellent first period for the Cardiff in Sheffield as the Devils raced into a three-goal lead. Stephen Dixon picking up a rebound and set up Joey Haddad to open the scoring at 8:31, and then a freak goal put the Devils two goals ahead after the puck took a bizarre bounce of the boards to leave Sam Duggan the simple task of slotting into an unguarded net at 16:05. Matthew Myers’ goal 46 seconds from the end of the period put the Devils into a commanding position.

62 seconds into the middle session Mike McNamee extended that lead to 4-0, but the Steelers were on the board at 28:44 when Marek Trončinský’s shot crept through everyone. Haddad and then Josh Batch did, however, score two more goals for the Devils before the period was over to have them 6-1 up after 40 minutes.

Duggan grabbed his second of the game with a perfectly-placed wrist-shot at 46:40, for the final goal of the game for the Devils, before Brendan Connolly and then an excellent finish from Tanner Ebele pulled the score back to 3-7 with a pair of late powerplay goals.
