Game recap

Belfast Giants moved on to five straight wins as they ended Coventry's four-game unbeaten league record with a 4-1 win.

Ben Lake came back to haunt his former team with the opening goal at the SSE Arena just over 13 minutes into the game. Liam Morgan then put the hosts into a two-goal lead 7:44 into period two, but the Blaze struck back less than two minutes later when Matt Pohlkamp’s shot from the point evaded everything and sailed past Shane Owen into the net.

After a spell of Blaze pressure, the Giants re-established their two-goal advantage as Jordan Smotherman got into a good area and slotted passed Jamie Phillips from the top of the crease with 3:43 left in the period.

Lake turned provider for Curtis Hamilton to finish from the top of the crease shorthanded at 47:35 to put the Giants into a comfortable position with the game's final goal. The end result was perhaps a little harsh on Coventry, who had several bright spells during the game but were unable to find more than one way past Shane Owen.
