Game recap

Midweek hockey saw Guildford claim a point at home to Cardiff in the Challenge Cup, as the Devils stayed top of Group B with the win.

Cardiff needed just 26 seconds to take the lead - Stephen Dixon backhanding past Travis Fullerton in the Flames net to give the visitors an early lead. The Devils survived the period with the lead despite killing off two 5-on-3 Flames powerplays, but could have been further ahead had Masi Marjamaki not found the ironwork with a penalty shot.

Penalties eventually cost the Devils their advantage however, as John Dunbar pounced on a rebound from close range to tie the game at 22:46. A trademark Calle Ackered slapshot from the point then put the Flames ahead at 29:25, with Corbin Baldwin's equally as accurate rocket finding Ben Bowns' net at 30:28. Charles Linglet however pulled the Devils back to within one just over two minutes later as he pounced on a loose puck.

Sam Jardine tied the game with just under 12 minutes to play, before Guildford then had a goal washed out on video review - a player in the goal crease interfering with the netminder. No more goals saw the game needing overtime, where Gleason Fournier was the hero for Cardiff with 1:36 played in the extra period.
