Guildford produced a stunning road performance, and Travis Fullerton saved all 32 shots he faced, to put the Flames into their first ever Elite League Playoff Finals Weekend.
Starting a goal down from the previous evening, the Flames wasted little time in getting back level on aggregate – 4:19 on the board when the goal came after Clan didn’t clear the puck, and Joel Rumpel stranded, Jamie Crooks had an empty net to aim at and make it 1-0 on the night. Less than four minutes later the visitors took the aggregate lead, a Den Davies shot was saved, but Ian Watters pounced to fire home the rebound at 8:15.
The lone goal of the middle period put the Flames into a two-goal aggregate lead, Evan Jansen striking 53 seconds before the period was over to make it 3-0 on the night.
The Clan had 16 shots in the final period, but couldn’t find a way past Fullerton. Risking everything Rumpel was pulled for the extra attacker early to try to find two goals, but Calle Ackered found the empty net with 2:17 to go to put the Flames three ahead overall. A late TJ Foster goal with 40 seconds to go rounded off the 5-0 win on the night, and gave the Flames a famous 7-3 aggregate win.
