Goals and assists
A tight battle at the Skydome saw the Blaze and Steelers battling a ‘four-pointer’ it the race for the playoffs after both teams won on Saturday night.
Following a scoreless opening period it was Sheffield who took the lead – Tom Zanoski with the goal just over the halfway mark to put the Steelers into a lead they held through 40 minutes.
The Blaze, who lost this same fixture 4-2 a week ago, were however to tie the game up in the third period. A Ben Lake shot was saved by Jackson Whistle, but the rebound fell kindly to Nicolai Bryhnisveen in the slot to fire into the net at 48:43. The Steelers were denied a free shot on goal in the dying seconds as Ross Venus threw himself in front of the puck to prevent it getting through – earning his side a point at the teams went to overtime.
No goals in the extra period saw the game decided by a shootout – Matt Hackett saved the four attempts he faced as the Blaze took the shootout win.
