Game recap

Cardiff Devils 6-5 MK Lightning

Milton Keynes already had a win in Cardiff going into tonight’s game, and gave the Devils an almighty scare again this evening.

Things seemed to be off to a good start for the Devils, who took the lead thanks to Stephen Dixon 2:29 into the game. However the Lightning would lead by three after the first period – a double from Robbie Baillargeon, goals at 4:35 and 11:29, followed by player-coach Tim Wallace’s marker at 17:27 had the league’s basement side two ahead at the break.

Less than two minutes into the middle period David Norris then put the Lightning 4-1 ahead, before the Devils fightback began. Joey Martin at 24:54 got the ball rolling, followed by Sean Bentivoglio at 26:15, and finally Mark Richardson drawing the Devils level at 31:26. But the scoring in the period wasn’t over – Andreas Valdix put the Lightning back ahead with 2:31 left in the period.

The Devils needed a third period comeback to stay top of the table, and duly got it. Joey Martin tied the game 25 seconds into the session, before completing his hat-trick with the game winner at 53:44 to help the Devils to a 6-5 win.
