Game recap

Three goals in under a minute helped Coventry Blaze tied the game late in the third and then won a shootout to steal two points at the SkyDome tonight.

Tom Flodqvist put Coventry ahead just after five minutes into this game, but goals from Matt Beca and Scott Pitt in the latter half of the opening period had the Clan a goal up after 20 minutes.

With 5:05 gone in the second Matt Haywood extended that lead to 3-1. The sides traded goals between Luke Ferrera and Guillaume Doucet to end the period at 4-2 to the Clan. When the visitors went 5-2 ahead through Vaclav Stupka with 4:28 gone in the third they seemed to have the win in the bag. The Blaze though had other ideas late on in the game; first Flodqvist brought it back to a two-goal deficit at 17:39. This was followed by Ross Venus making it 4-5 with 58:24 on the clock, and a calm  breakaway effort from Ben Lake tying the game just 21 seconds later!

The Clan had chances to win the game late on but couldn’t find a way through, and the game headed to overtime. With no scoring in that extra period, it took a shootout to separate the teams – with the Clan missing all of their shots, Flodqvist’s wristshot won the Blaze the extra point.
