Game recap

Visitors Coventry Blaze moved themselves to within a point of the playoff places thanks to a big win over geographical rivals Milton Keynes Lightning.

Shawn Pauly put the Blaze a goal ahead early on, a Tim Crowder pass finding the Blaze forward in front to fire home from close range with 3:21 gone. It got better for the visitors shortly before the break – with MK on a powerplay Robbie Baillargeon missed on a breakaway, only for the Blaze to go back the other way and covert through Alex Nikiforuk.

Dillon Lawrence put Coventry into a three-goal lead at 24:05, but MK found a way back into the game just over three minutes later thanks to Georgs Golovkovs’s finish from the slot. However the Lightning were back in things for only 57 seconds, a Luke Ferrara finish on the breakaway making it 4-1. When Ben Lake converted a penalty shot then 18 seconds later the game was all-but over before the 30 minute mark.

Nikiforuk added his second of the night at 48:18 on the board for 6-1, while Golovkovs also added another for his own pair as an MK consolation for the score to finish 6-2 to the Blaze. That win puts the Blaze just one point shy of Dundee, with a substantial number of games in hand.
