Slovak club began talks with the Austrian League board and Slovak Federation to get authorization to play next season in Austria.
Slovak newspaper Sport reported an interview with Slovak First League team
ŠHK 37 Piešťany president Jaroslav Lušňák declaring club began negotiation with
Erste Bank Eishockey League to enter next season as the first Slovak team. "Negotiations have only just begun - declared Lušňák - and will continue for a long time. We have just completed the first of three stages of negotiations. Participation in this competition is our priority for next season and we will fight it with all your strength. We also have a preliminary approval by Slovak Federation to begin negotiations with the Austrian side. Two weeks ago we met in Wien an Austrian marketing company that can represented us in negotiations as our agents, because they made the necessary contacts and know the situation there better than us. We are in regular contact with them. The club already satisfied the preliminary conditions for entry into the competition. We now must simply wait. If EBEL board will accept our apply, we can proceed to the next round of negotiations that would have been more substantive and should concern points as finances, fees and stadium condition. It is rather a question of the next few weeks".
To apply at EBEL, a club must secure participation for next three years covering the costs of referees, entry fees and guarantees in case of bankruptcy.
Piešťany isn't the only club aspiring to enter in EBEL, there are candidatures also from Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic and same Slovakia, but EBEL previously decided to add just one club for next season. "We all fighting for a single spot, but the EBEL is considering the possibility to allow more then one club" completed Lušňák
