Milano-Cortina will host 2026 Winter Olympics
After 20 years Winter Olympics are back in Italy. IOC assigned today the organization to Milan-Cortina
Milan-Cortina got the 2026 Winter Olympics beating Stockholm-Åre in a vote by the the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today in Lausanne. The Italian candidacy was the favourite and won the secret ballot 47-34. It will be the third time Italy hosting Olympics: Winter edition in Cortina 1956 and Turin 2006 and in Rome 1960.
The opening ceremony will be duplicated in football stadium San Siro and at same time in Cortina on February 6, the closing ceremony will be hosted in Verona at the famous Arena on February 22. The iconic Duomo Square will be the Medal Plaza
The ice hockey tournament will be played in the new Pala Italia Arena, which will be built in the neighborhood of Santa Giulia, with a capacity of 15.000 spectators, while the women's tournament will be hosted in the Milano Hockey Arena, a renovation of current abandoned PalaSharp, with a capacity of 7.000 spectators
