France and Czech Republic going strong

Two main favorites of World Women's Championship Division II in Caen, France have so far met the high expectations and continue to cruise through the tournament without a single loss of points. On Thursday, Czech Republic beat Italy and France outscored Denmark.

There have been some complaints about the quality of accomodation and especially dressing rooms, e.g. Team Denmark is currently residing in a room normally used as a food stand. French organizers admit that there are some problems, but at the same time assure that they are doing their best.

Although media do not pay much attention to the ongoing tournament, attendances for home team games have passed 1000 spectators and fans fans fill up most of the stadium capacity. The highlight of the whole tournament is scheduled for Sunday evening, when France and Czech Republic meet each other in a game that is very likely going to be decisive in a race for promotion.

Italy 1:3 Czech Republic

Team Italy took a surprise lead in the first period, but Czechs equalized shortly afterwards and turned the result in their favour late in the third period, with the third goal scored during Italian power play.

France 3:1 Denmark

More than 1200 spectators filled the stadium to watch the home team beat Denmark in a close encounter. Danes had more shots on goal than the hosts, but failed with their finishing and found themselves 0-3 down after two periods. A goal early in the final period was not enough to turn the momentum and French side could celebrate a valuable victory.
