With a concentrated performance Adler Mannheim could overcome the general tiredness and defeat ERC Ingolstadt 3-1 in Game 5 of the DEL finals 2015 to take a 3-2 series lead.
A full season and 4 games in the finals leave marks on the players. For 13 minutes the crowd in Mannheim’s SAP arena could feel that both teams were tired, but still they were giving everything they had. Jon Rheault got things going, when an outlet pass from Ingolstadt got caught up in a skate and bounced off the referee to create a breakaway for Rheault, which he used to secure the first goal in the game for Mannheim. Four minutes later the referees signalled a delayed penalty on Ingolstadt’s squad, but Mannheim did not want to let its struggling powerplay formation on the ice. Brandon Yip played a pass all across the ice to Christoph Ullmann, he played it back into the slot to Andrew Joudrey and he found the hole to score the second one for Mannheim.
An early goal in the second period gave Ingolstadt some hope back. Derek Hahn found Ryan MacMurchy and he put it past Dennis Endras. Midway through the last period the Adler powerplay finally got the first goal in the DEL finals 2015 on a slapshot by Robert Raymond, that got deflected by Jamie Tardif.
Game 6 will be played in Ingolstadt on Wednesday, which will give the players 2 days in between to breathe and rest.
