On game day 2 of the DEL Semifinals Adler Mannheim could surprise Wolfsburg with the second comeback from 0-3 deficit in 3 days. Ingolstadt could win in Düsseldorf.
Wolfsburg
Grizzly Adams vs Adler Mannheim 3-5, series 0-2
Mannheim is
currently building its reputation as the comback kings of the DEL. In game 1
they already turned a 0-3 around in OT and today they repeated this feat. Although
it started really well for Mannheim. A few minutes in they got the puck in the
net, but the referees declined the goal after video review and so Wolfsburg
started to storm in the other direction. Within 2:34 minutes Tyler Scofield,
Sergey Stas and Jeff Likens established the 3-goal margin the Grizzlies already
knew from Friday. And again Mannheim was not backing down. Still in the first
period Andrew Joudrey and Frank Mauer shortened the gap to only 1 goal, which
was finally evened by Matthias Plachta on a 5-on-3 powerplay almost with the
sirene for the second break.
In the last
period Mannheim put an immense pressure on Wolfsburg and got rewarded with 3
minutes to go when Jochen Hecht saw Frank Mauer skating into the slot, who
hammered it in with a one-timer. Immediately after Wolfsburg pulled the goalie
Marcus Kink intercepted the puck and sent it down the ice for the 5-3.
Düsseldorfer EG vs ERC Ingolstadt 2-5, series 1-1
In the
quarterfinals both teams were known for giving the home crowds something to
cheer. In the Semis this looks a bit different so far. Since Düsseldorf won in
Ingolstadt on Friday, Ingolstadt was forced to answer and they did. Though it
took them two goals for Düsseldorf by Alexander Preibisch and Thomas Dolak early
in the second period to get rolling. But then Thomas Greilinger, Petr Taticek
and twice John Laliberte shocked Düsseldorf’s arena and let Ingolstadt carry a
4-2 lead into the second intermission. In the last period Brandon Buck
converted another 5-on-3 powerplay, but Düsseldorf did not get back at them
with anything. Maybe they were still distracted from the long pause as the ice of the arena started melting, which needed a longer fix. On Tuesday Ingolstadt will look to get the first home win of
this series.
