For the second time in less than a year a home game for the Swedish national team has to be abandoned due to ice problems.
The first of two Euro Hockey Tour games between Sweden and Finland this weekend was played in Västerås. A nice event for the fans in Västerås that are not used to have the national team playing there. But the fans had to leave the game disappointed as the game was abandoned only two minutes into the second period due to ice problems.
First the game was interrupted for about 30 minutes due to a hole in the ice but when the game was resumed it was only played two minutes before new problems were found at the opposite side of the rink and the game was abandoned.
A big fiasco for the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation who also had a game against Norway last April abandoned due to ice problems. The problem occurs when the ice is removed to make room for new commercial logos under the ice. After that the ice don't freeze properly before the game. Similar problems also occured in the CHL semi final in Gothenburg but that game was resumed after a long break.
Finland led the game 1-0 after a goal by Janne Pesonen and that will probably also count as the final result. The two team will play each other again on Sunday in Stockholm, hopefully without ice problems.
