Servette-Genève advances to Semi-finals

Servette-Genève advances to Semi-finals

28 Dec 2014 | Andreas Reiner

In the afternoon game Geneva faced yesterdays loosing team Jokerit Helsinki who had tried hard but lost to Ufa.

Servette was off to the better start when Kevin Romy got a pass from Matt Lombardi and got the puck past Karlsson in the 7th minute. The Finns weren't as aggressive as they had been in the starting minutes of yesterdays game and this was also reflected by the shot statistics in the first minutes, 12:2 in favour of Geneva was a pretty clear verdict with just 15 minutes played. It didn't get any better in the last 5 minutes but the score remained 1-0 for the Swiss.

Jokerit had the slight upper hand at the beginning of the second period, finally creating some chances but still no goal for the Joker. with 34 minutes played the Finns had a powerplay chance and Ville Lajunen didn't take too long as he scored just 4 seconds into the man-advantage, assisted by Linus Omark and Petr Koukal. Helsinki had a hot situation to handle when Ohtamaa and Mäki sat on the bench but they were able to finish the period without conceiving a goal.

Chris McSorley pushing his team to the next Victory

One and a half minutes were played when Inti Pestoni who normally plays for HC Ambri-Piotta was fed with a nice pass by Daniel Vukovic to finish the attack solo and score the second goal for Servette. A slashing penalty against Jokerit gave Geneva the chance for a powerplay in the 48th minute when Taylor Pyatt scored on an assist by his brother Tom and put Servette ahead 3-1 and made it difficult for Jokerit to directly reach the Semifinals. The last minutes, the Finns gave their own chances out of their hands by taking penalties, Servette proved to be too strong and qualified for the Semifinal directly and will await their opponent.
