In a dramatic game the Freezers beat Iserlohn 1-0. Wolfsburg with 8-3 home win to finish series.
Iserlohn Roosters – Hamburg Freezers 0-1 (Playoff 2-4)
Whatever you heard about ice-hockey in Iserlohn, there is always a chance to increase the drama. Hamburg started the game concentrated and indeed managed to keep emotions out of the game for most of the time. And 4 minutes into the second period it was Jerome Flaake, who scored the first goal of the night on a rebound from David Wolf’s shot. In the following time Iserlohn threw everything at Dimitri Kotschnew, but could not beat him. When time seemed to run out already, suddenly seconds became an eternity. 9 seconds were left on the clock when Iserlohn had a last scoring chance and Kotschnew kicked the goal out of its anchor. Penalty shot! Brooks Macek has the huge chance to bring his team into overtime, but Kotschnew is there with the blocker. Another 7 seconds tick down and in the turmoil of emotions the Freezers thought they made it when the referees decided to give 2 seconds back on the clock. And a face off in front of Hamburg’s goal. One last chance to stay alive for Iserlohn. But in the end Hamburg also manages to fight off this face off and make it to the Semi Finals.
Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg – Nűrnberg Ice Tigers 8-3 (Playoff 4-2)
The Ice Tigers could not use their last chance although they tried hard. But the better start was reserved for Wolfsburg. After 2:40 minutes Norm Milley scored. Time to fight back: Patrick Reimer and Yan Stastny managed to turn the game around after 11 minutes for Nűrnberg. But then they slept for half a minute what Sebastian Furchner and Simon Danner took advantage of to secure a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes for Wolfsburg. 3 minutes into the second period the Ice Tigers came back one last time with a splendid shot from Fredrik Eriksson. Robert Bina’s 4-3 at the half time mark should become the game winner and the turn for the good for Wolfsburg. Rosa, Haskins, Fauser and Dzieduszycki added goals to make it 8-3. The result did not reflect the fighting spirit of the Tigers, but in the end everything that counts is that Wolfsburg wins the series 4-2.
