Sweden easily defeated Slovakia to complete the semifinal quartet. At the next stage, Sweden will play Russia while the other semifinal is between Canada and Finland.

This was no contest. The Swedish team was a lot better in all areas of the game and could, for most of the time, do whatever they wanted, especially in the second period. But they often tried to do it too neatly -- only interested in scoring highlight-reel goals. Lucas Wallmark and Filip Forsberg scored two goals each and Oscar Dansk earned the shutout.

"The guys play really well in front of me and that makes it easy," said the Swedish goalie. "The penalty-killing was very good. They cover the shots and make it easy for me so I am very glad how we played."

Oscar Dansk kept the net clean tonight.

With yet another game with more than 10,000 fans in the arena, Erik Karlsson enjoys playing in Malmö: "This crowd is amazing. We have so much support from our fans."

What could have saved Slovakia today would have been if they had managed to score the first goal. The Slovak top line of Martin Reway, Milan Kolena and David Griger, who had combined for 28 points during the first four games, was only allowed three shots on target all night.

In the opening the Slovak forwards were checking high and didn't give the Swedish defencemen much time to start an attack, but once the Swedes got into the attacking zone they stayed there for long periods.

At 6:27 Sweden scored a goal, but the referee had blew his whistle the second before for a goaltender interference and Slovakia got the first power play of the game.

It was Lucas Wallmark who opened the scoring for Sweden at 11:58 with his first goal of the tournament. Two Slovak player collided and there was nobody to stop him. He beat Slovak goaltender Richard Sabol with a nice stick-handling move. André Burakowsky had a shot off the post a little earlier.

Sweden got a power play late in the first period and they got the puck moving really well. Elias Lindholm got the puck on the side of the net and beat Sabol on the rebound to make it 2-0.

In the opening of the middle period Sweden got another power play in which they scored their third goal. After a failed Slovak counterattack, Sweden came back four players on two Slovaks and Filip Forsberg got the goal, assisted by Burakovsky and Lindholm.

When Sweden got a five-on-three power play for more than a minute the crowd expected a fourth Swedish goal, but that didn't happen. It appeared as if Sweden only was interested in scoring eye-candy goals.

Lucas Wallmark scored his second goal at 33:21 to make it 4-0. Nick Sörensen approached the net but failed with the shot. Instead, Wallmark found the puck and put it high behind Sabol.

With five minutes to play of the period it was Slovakia's turn to play five-on-three for a long time. Sweden even got a third penalty while there still were two players in the penalty box. Still no goal for Slovakia.

The third period saw many penalties and little organised play. It seemed like both teams already knew the game was decided.

"It was a good penalty killing game for us," said Sebastian Collberg, "but it wasn't necessary to take so many penalties."

Slovakia should have gotten their first goal while playing four-on-four in the middle of the third period, but Michal Valjent missed a certain goal when Dansk was out of position.

Sweden got another two-man advantage but were very sloppy and Mario Lunter nearly scored a shorthanded goal.

Swedish captain Filip Forsberg became a two-goal scorer six minutes from the end with a shot into the near-side top corner from the right circle. A minute later, Jacob de la Rose picked up a rebound and made the final score 6-0.

For the last two minutes of play, the entire crowd in the arena was standing up cheering their players. The adventure continues for the Swedish youngsters who now will play Russia.

Oscar Dansk is looking forward to the semi final: "It will be fun to play Russia again. We will win."

For Slovakia, the tournament is over.
