Daugavins lifts Servette over CSKA

Kaspars Daugavins added his second goal of the night as he scores in the overtime to lift Servette over CSKA and take spot #1 in Torriani Group before going to the playoffs.

Kaspars Daugavins scores the game-winner at 61:53 on the powerplay and shoots for the skies as Servette take the first position of their group prior to the playoffs, earning them a bye and a spot in the semi-finals.

This means Servette would get #2 team from the Cattini group and thus mean their opponent would be less dangerous, but having to choose between HC Davos and Team Canada guarantees you'll have to put up a fight.

Daugavins gave a first-rate performance adding an assist to his two goals. Alexander Frolov opened the scoring for the CSKA at 2:15. Denis Hollenstein, who was later voted as the best player for team Servette, levels the score at 8:06.

Radulov and veteran and CSKA GM Sergei Fedorov get CSKA to a more comfortable lead, but Daugavins anulls it with a goal at 34:03.

Going into the third period, Servette were down a goal, and late in the period Alexandre Picard takes the game to overtime on the assists from Inti Pestoni and Kaspars Daugavins.

Yakov Rylov's penalty nearly a minute into the OT proved very expensive, as he gave Daugavins a shot to win the game - and he did.

Tonight, at 20:15 CET, 14:15 EDT Spengler Cup will see the two best teams so far battle against each other - Team Canada and HC Davos.

The Rochester Americans and Vitkovice will have to wait for the outcome of Team Canada versus HC Davos to see who will they be playing, together with CSKA Moscow.
