Jokerit Helsinki will play SM-liiga also in the coming season. This was confirmed on Tuesday evening when SM-liiga (i.e. other SM-liiga clubs) and Jokerit agreed on terms what Jokerit has to fulfill in order to play in SM-liiga during season 2013-14.
Discussions about Jokerit's future started some weeks ago when Jokerit announced that they will leave SM-liiga after season 2013-14 and join KHL. Other clubs were devastated and stated that Jokerit didn't ask anything from other clubs which actually should be done in league like SM-liiga.Other clubs threatened that Jokerit could be closed out from SM-liiga for season 2013-14 if they will leave to KHL. Jokerit's leave will mean big incoming losses in ticket sales and TV money for other clubs. During Tuesday there were rumours that Jokerit has to pay almost 5 million euro totally to other clubs as a compensation. However exact terms of agreement were not yet released.
