HV71 and Luleå both win the first quarter final on home ice.

In what was expected to be a close game HV71 won 6-0 against Linköping. HV71 had control of the game and two goals two minutes into the first and second period was the key to a solid win.

Mats Trygg only scored three goals in the regular season but opened the playoffs with two goals. At first he opened the scoring at 2:10 and later he made it 5-0 in the third period. HV71's third line was good and scored four goals. Jason Krog had four and Jesper Fasth three assists.

Young Anton Bengtsson made it 2-0 for HV71 and Rhett Rakhshani made it 3-0 with an early goal in the second period to put his team in full control of the game. After that Linköping was never close and Fälth and Lindström scored 4-0 and 6-0.

With just over one minute left of the game Linköping's star Carl Söderberg lost his temper when he was provoked by Per Ledin. An ugly cross check in Ledin's face gave Söderberg a 5 + game penalty and he his likely to recieve a long suspension which could be decisive in this quarter final series.

Luleå got a dream start to quarter final against Frölunda when Sami Sandell opened the scoring already after 31 seconds. Fredrik Eriksson tied the game with a surprising shot from the blue line but it was Luleå's game and goals by Jan Sandström, Linus Persson and Linus Klasen gave Luleå a 4-1 lead.

Joel Lundqvist scored on the power play to give Frölunda some hope. But Frölunda only had 15 shots on goal and was never close to come back. Instead Jonas Vihko could make it 5-2 on the empty net.

A goal that didn't make the Frölunda player's more happy since they were very upset after Vihko's check on P-J Axelsson. Axelsson left the game injured but Vihko only got two minutes for boarding.

A chance to revenge for both Frölunda and Linköping on Friday.
