Gagarin Cup Conference semifinals

Western Conference

SKA St. Petersburg (1) - Severstal Cherepovets (5) 4-1

One day after a complicated 7-4 win with two late empty net goals, SKA controlled the match against Severstal from the begin and gained a solid 3-0 lead until "half time" after streaks by Viktor Tikhonov (2) and Teemu Ramstedt. Only at 46:19 Severstal made it onto the scoreboard through Alexander Ryazantsev. Not even two minutes later though Alexander Kucheryavenko made everything clear for the home side who now have won both home matches.

SKA lead 2-0 in the series

CSKA Moscow (2) - Dynamo Moscow (3) 2-1

A clearly improved CSKA goalie Rostislav Stana was the key player for his team when they tied the series against Dynamo. At 14:31 Igor Grigorenko brought the hosts in front with a rebound after several consecutives CSKA shots. Just after killing a penalty Dynamo had the momentum on their side and came back through Andrei Mironov at the end of the first period. At 25:22 Dmitry Kugryshev won a battle for the puck behind the Dynamo goal, circled the net and fired a high shot to give his team the lead back. In the following time Dynamo had several major opportunities but Stana denied them another goal and CSKA saved the small lead until the very end.

Series tied 1-1

Eastern Conference

Ak Bars Kazan (1) - Salavat Yulayev Ufa (5) 2-3

In a surprisingly even match Dmitry Obukhov used a blue line shot by Stepan Zakharchuk to deflect the puck in for the 1-0 for Kazan at 29:38. Not even two and a half minutes later Kazan's Jarkko Immomen took a four minute penalty for high sticking that was punished immidiately by the guests from Ufa who used the first power play of the match to tie the match through Antti Pihlström who received a pass by Kirill Koltsov in a central position in front of the Ak Bars net. He then went on to fire a shot into the right corner! After a powerful shot from the blue line by Stepan Zakharchuk it was Janne Pesonen who deflected the puck into the net from next to the right post to restore the Kazan lead at 47:19! At ths point the goal came a bit out of the blue but again Ufa found a very fast answer! After a penalty against Denis Golubev guest player Pihlström scored his double into the right corner alone in front of Ak Bars goalie Konstantin Barulin after nobody attacked him - only 38 seconds after Kazan's lead. And now Ufa saw their big chance coming. After a counter over the left wing Andrei Zubarev gave a long cross-pass to Nikita Filatov who scored the 3-2 game winner for Salavat Yulayev from short distance at 53:52. Ak Bars found no answer anymore and when they pulled out their goalie for the last half minute Ufa only hit the outside of the goal post with the net wide open!

Salavat Yulayev lead 1-0 in the series

Avangard Omsk (2) - Traktor Chelyabinsk (3) 0-5

Traktor dominated the match against Avangard from the very begin and were rewarded with goals by Petri Kontiola who used the rebound after a blue line shot by Vyachelsav Belov and Valery Nishuchkin who scored with a break away for a 2-0 guest lead after just 08:26. At the start of the third period Andrei Popov used another rebound for the decision. But this was not yet the end of Traktor's scoring streak and Evgeny Kuznetsov from another rebound along with Petri Kontiola with the net wide open after a nice passing combination made it an easy five-goal win for Traktor which barely anyone expected in this form.

Traktor lead 1-0 in the series
