With Federation bankrupt, IIHF recognizes the National League as official interlocutor

Last December, the Lithuanian Ice Hockey Federation (LLRF) applied to the court for bankruptcy. While the bankruptcy proceedings, LLRF transferred its powers to the National Hockey League (NLRL), which took over the LLRF the organization of all leagues in the country as well as the activities of national teams and their participation in the world championships.
Such a course of events in Lithuania was aware of international ice hockey federation (IIHF), which has agreed to confer the rights of the ice hockey representation in Lithuania to NLRL
IIHF and NLRL confirmed the agreements in an official document signed by IIHF president Rene Fasel and NLRL Executive Director Remigijus Valickas.
"In Lithuania ice hockey development stopped. By contrast, last year's National Team partecipation in Olympics Qualifications in Hungary and World U-20 Championship in Romania showed that NLRL is able to take care of the ice hockey and continue to develop it. So, with all the trouble we take the responsibility of promoting hockey and representing Lithuania in the international arena - after signing the contract with the IIHF" said NLRL Executive Director Remigijus Valickas.
A couple of years ago NLRL took over the right to host the Lithuanian ice hockey championships from the LLRF. Since the NLRL assignment domestic championships reached a record level of competing hockey teams The LLRF had four teams in the championship, now NLRL first and second league counts together 21 members.
