Alexander Salak breaks Elitserien record

Alexander Salak breaks Elitserien record

03 Nov 2012 | Henrik Lundqvist

Saturday was another great day for the goalies of Elitserien. Four of them earned shut-outs. Alexander Salak of Färjestad did not, but he did in the three previous games and the five minutes he kept Linköping from scoring today was enough to beat the record for longest time without allowing a goal: 204 minutes and 47 seconds.

Alexander Salak, goalie of Färjestad, broke Thomas Östlund's 20 years old record today. It would have been enough to keep the net clean for 2:02 in the game against Linköping but he managed to protect it for 5:30 before Carl Söderberg scored 1-0 on a power-play.

"I hope the record lasts for another 20 years", he says  after the game.

Färjestad tied the game (Magnus Nygren) and also scored 2-1 (Max Görtz) early in the second period. Linköping's Jonas Almtorp made it 2-2 at 36:52. In the first minute of the third period Marius Holtet scored game-winning 3-2 for Färjestad.

Oscar Möller scored three goals in the second period when Skellefteå turned 1-2 after the first period to a 4-2 lead. The game ended 7-3. Unlucky for Skellefteå Möller was injured in the third period. The ligament injury may force him to undergo surgery. Oscar Lindberg got a concussion and will miss Karjala Tournament with the national team.

In the remaining four games all winning goalies earned shutouts. Timrå's Joakim Lundström made 31 saves in the 3-0 win against MODO, Frölunda's Julius Hudacek made 35 saves in the 4-0 win against Brynäs, Luleå's David Rautio made 21 saves in the 1-0 win to Rögle and Fredrik Norrena made 31 saves when Växjö won the important home game against AIK 3-0.
