HV71’s first loss at home

Linköping was the first team to beat the Elitserien leader HV71 in Jönköping. The game ended 1-4. The other four games of the day ended with one-goal wins.
HV71 lost for the second time this season - the first time at home. Linköping got the lead in the eighth minute when Mattias Weinhandl scored a powerplay goal. Weinhandl also scored 2-0 in the second period. After the second goal HV71 called a timeout. That didn't help a lot. Instead Linköping's Pär Arlbrandt made it 3-0 at 33:31. Linköping's goalie Christian Engstarnd made 32 saves and was close to the shutout, but at 56:33 Marcus Nilson scored HV's only goal of the game. The game ended 1-4 after an empty net goal by Andreas Jämtin with a second remaining.
In the game Frölunda-Brynäs all goals were scored in the second period. First the home team took the lead on a goal by Christian Bäckman, but two quick power play goals in the middle of the period by Johan Harju and Daniel Widing won the game for Brynäs.
The two teams at the bottom of the table, both desperate for points, played against each other today. The home team AIK took the lead in the first minute of the second period on a goal by Elitserien's top junior scorer Nicklas Jensen. Within five minutes Liam Reddox and Brad Moran had replied for Växjö. At 45 minutes AIK's Mattias Janmark-Nylén tied it again and when AIK got a 2-man advantage six minutes before the end they took a timeout and could then score the game-winner. Jonas Liwing got the 3-2 goal assisted by Esa Pirnes. Swedish media now speculate if Växjö will let the coach Janne Karlsson go.
Timrå has only won one 3-pointer this season but tonight's game started well. WJC hero Max Friberg and Niklas Nordgren had taken Timrå to a 2-0 lead after the first period. But in the second it was Luleå's turm to score twice. Daniel Gunnarsson scored 2-1 and Joonas Vihko 2-2. the game was decided in the shoot-out where Jens Jakobs (Luleå) and Joachim Rohdin (Timrå) scored in the second round but the game was decided in the fourth when Linus Klasen scored for Luleå but Rohdin missed.
Also Färjestad won in a shoot-out game. MODO was defeated 3-2 in Karlstad. Mikael Johansson scored 1-0 for Färjestad early in the game but Alexander Steen tied it. In the third Färjestad took the lead again on a goal by Per Åslund and once again MODO ted it. This time Dave Spina. In the shoot-out Per Åslund was the only one to score and Färjestad won the game.
