The team of Alexander Ovechkin beat Ak Bars in the shootout and so did Slovan against Yugra. Dinamo Minsk and Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk had less problems with their opponents.
Dinamo Minsk gained desperately needed three points in Khabarovsk by beating local Amur 3-2 in regulation. Dmitry Shitkov had opened the score for Amur at 12:56 but Tim Stapleton, Teemu laine and Andrei Stas made it a two-goal lead for the Belarussians after two intermissions. With less than six minutes to go Dmitry Lugin only could cut the lead but also with a time out they couldn't turn the match around. Amur stays really inconsistent with lots of ups and downs in their campaign. For Dinamo it was only the fourfth win in ten matches but at leas they could get away from the bottom position in Tarasov Division, now taken by Spartak Moscow.
At home against Dynamo Moscow Kharlamov Division leaders Ak Bars Kazan only earned one point despite an early 2-0 lead through Konstantin Korneyev and Danis Zaripov. But with their first power play Dynamo managed to cut the lead to just one when Maxim Solovyov was succesful at 11:15. Another power play let to the guests' equalizer when Konstantin Volkov stood at the right spot at 34:51. When the game ended in a shootout Ak Bars goalie Konstantin Barulin had an unfortunate appearance. He let through all three Dynamo penalty shots by Alexander Ovechkin, Marek Kvapil and Alexei Tsvetkov. For Ak Bars Janne Pesonen scored but their first shooter Denis Abdullin was stopped by Dynamo goalie Alexander Yeryomenko.
Another game that ended in shootout was the one of Slovan Bratislava against Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk. In a close game the underdogs from Russia led 0-2 after the first period which they dominated clearly through goals by Vitaly Sitnikov and Ivan Khlyntsev. An improved Slovan managed to tie the game in the middle period through Peter Olvecky and Michel Miklik. Just after the end of the second intermission Igor Skorokhodov did get the lead back to Yugra that was again tied when Michal Vondrka was succesful with a shorthander at 45:19. In the shootout Miroslav Satan and Michal Vondrka gave the extra point to Slovan. For Yugra it was the only point won in their four-game long road trip and only the fourth overall, letting them stay by far the weakest KHL team this season. On the other side Slovan won all four consecutive home wins and now have won six out of seven KHL matches as league newcomers.
In Nizhnekamsk home side Neftekhimik was the clearly better team against outsiders Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg and won in the end 4-2. Pavel Vorobyov with an empty-netter decided everything at 58:31. Three minutes before Josef Straka had brought tension back into the game for Avtomobilist.
