Quarterfinals game 3

Eisbären Berlin - Kölner Haie 3:1

As in game 2 of the series, the middle period was the decisive one as all goals were scored in it. Cologne managed to have an even first period and around "half time" even went in front through a power play goal by Jason Jaspers. Although this goal should have given the Sharks a bit more self-confidence they received three goals against in a 96 second span between the 33rd and 35th minute. Succesful for Berlin were Tyson Mulock, James Sharrow and Julian Talbot - the 3-1 was also a power play goal. In the last 20 minuets the Polar Bears had an impressive shoting advantage but didn't manage to score another one nor did Cologne do so and so the series could be already over after the next game in Cologne.

Berlin leads 3-0 in the series

Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg - Straubing Tigers 1:3

Straubing again won aigainst Wolfsburg but this time by a far less brutal result than the 7-0 from game 2 of the series. The first two period were pretty even with chances on both sides but goals came only from Straubing as Dustin Whitecotton in a power play in the 16th and Daniel Sparre in the 28th get the puck over the goal line. Early in the third Markus Hundhammer used a 5 on 3 to decided the match for the Tigers. Wolfsburg only did get the consolidation goal after pulling out the goalie for another attacker. Straubing now can win the series at home in game 4.

Adler Mannheim - Hamburg Freezers 1:2

After the almost historical 1-8 loss at home in game 2, Hamburg showed a great reaction by winning away in Mannheim. After the game has been finished no one will ever ask again how they did it and so they won't mind that the win was more than lucky. In the first period Mannheim played like a team that really wants to get another win in this series and had 22 to 3 shots on goal but only the one of Michael Glumac went into the net in the 10th minute. Whe Nikolai Goc had to go to the penalty box late in the period it even came worse for the home side as Patrick Traverse used this power play to tie the game in the 19th minute. In the second Hamburg became stronger and Serge Aubin turned the game around completely. In the last period the Eagles from Mannheim tried everything to come back in this match but Freezers goalie John Curry won the game for his team. In the 60 minutes of play he faced 44 shots and had 43 saves.

Mannheim leads 2-1 in the series

ERC Ingolstadt - DEG Metro Stars 3:2 OT

After their heavy loss in Düsseldorf earlier the week, Ingolstadt managed to get the home advantage back in a game where the special teams played a decisive role. When Evan Kaufmann and Patrick Reimer were in the penalty box Ingolstadt's Thomas Greilinger opened the score in a 5 on 3 already in the 5th minute. But when Kaufmann was allowed to come back on ice he already managed to tie the game with a shorthanded goal in the 6th minute. Later in the period Düsseldorf was even in power play themselved and Andrew Hedlund turned the game around in the 11th. In the middle period Ingolstadt was a bit better and Joe Motzko scored  the equalizer for them in the 34th. The third period saw no goals, so that the overtime had to decide over the winner and here it was Thomas Greilinger with his second of the day to get the game-winning goal in a power play in the 69th minute.
