Sweden wins U19 tournament in Kreuzlingen

The U19 teams are already preparing for next season's World Juniors in Ufa. Five of the European top nations played a tournament in Switzerland this week.

 
 
 
 
February 8-12 Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland got together in Bodensee Arena to play a 5-nations round robin tournament.

Sweden and Finland both won their first three games and faced each other on Sunday in what turned out to be a title game. The Swedes won the game 5-4 in overtime on a goal by Viktor Arvidsson. Sweden had a 2-1 lead after one period. Emil Lundberg scored 1-0 and Eetu Karvinen tied it seconds later. Gustav Björklund scored the second goal for Sweden.

The only goal of the second period was scored by Finland's Teemu Henritius who tied it at 20:46. Sweden's Villiam Haag missed a penalty shot at 35:52.

Finland scored twice in the third period (Matti Lamberg and Ville Ahlgren) to gain a 4-2 lead but the Swedes recovered and Viktor Arvidsson made it 3-4 at 46:27. Mikael Vikstrand then ties the game at 53:25.

Sweden won the tournament undefeated. In their first game they beat Czech Republic 5-2 on goals by Viktor Arvidsson (2), Gustav Björklund, Marcus Bohman and Linus Fröberg.

Hosts Switzerland were beaten 4-2 on the second day. Goals by Erik Nyström, Jeremy Boyce Rotevall, Emil Lundberg and Joachim Nermark.

On Friday Sweden beat Germany 6-1 thanks to goals by William Karlsson (2), Mikael Vikstrand, Erik Nyström, Emil Lundberg and Joachim Nermark.

The Swedish tournament winning team consisted of the following players.

Goalies: Joel Lassinantti and Niklas Lundström.

Defensemen: Marcus Bohman, Erik de la Rose, Oscar Engsund, Tom Nilsson, Alexander Falk, Mikael Vikstrand and Simon Karlsson.

Forwards: Jeremy Boyce Rotevall, Max Görtz, Viktor Arvidsson, Gustav Björklund, Emil Lundberg, Joachim Nermark, William Karlsson, Erik Nyström, Jakob Lilja, Linus Fröberg, Villiam Haag, Emil Molin, Joakim Nygård and Pontus Åberg.

Finland finished second after wins against Switzerland (6-2), Czech Republic (3-0) and Germany (7-0). The Czechs beat Germany and Switzerland to finish third. In the last game of the tournament Switzerland beat Germany to avoid the last place.
